• Download August Calendar Serving the social, nutritional, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of adults, age 60 and older. Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Sunday to Friday. Registration - In-person registration is necessary, but there is no membership fee. All senior programs and special events are listed in a monthly calendar that is mailed to all members. The Senior Center is funded through the NYC Department for the Aging. Senior Center Sunday Programs – are funded through grants from the Meals-on-Wheels Association, the Walmart Foundation, and the UJA Federation. Lunch Served from 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. Suggested Contribution $1.50 Kosher Lunch is prepared on-site by professional staff and served by senior volunteers. With its restaurant-style service, lunch hour is a time for socializing in a welcoming atmosphere, one that encourages participants to make new acquaintances and meet with old friends. A licensed nutritionist approves the menus. Assistance Caseworkers are available as a reliable source of assistance on legal, economical, and personal issues, as well as a place where older adults can meet and socialize with their peers. Activities A stimulating array of activities for both the mind and body. Scheduled programs include,lectures focusing on politics and social issues, health and safety, consumer awareness, the arts, Jewish heritage and other topics. Weekly entertainment includes films, concerts, stage and cabaret style performances and social dance parties. Special Celebration and Commemorations The Center hosts including Rosh Hashanah and Thanksgiving luncheons, a model Seder, pre-New Year’s Gala, monthly birthday parties, and a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. Health and Wellness Services Weekly Exercise classes includeTai Chi, Yoga and Chair Aerobics. Flu vaccinations, mammograms, weekly blood pressure and other health-related screenings are also offered. Trips Day trips are offered at least twice a month. Destinations include Atlantic City, Westchester Broadway Dinner Theater, and New York City Museums. Meals-on-Wheels The Y is a member of the Upper Manhattan Partnership for Senior Independence (UMPSI), a unique partnership among community agencies to provide Case Management Services and Meals-on-Wheels. Case Managers from UMPSI evaluate senior’s eligibility for home delivered meals. The Y prepares Kosher meals for homebound seniors in the community and receives Glatt Kosher catered meals for Orthodox homebound seniors. Meals are picked up from the Y and delivered by Charles Walburg Multi-service Center. For more information call (212) 342-9736. Shalom Vans: Your Link to the Y Our specially adapted passenger vans provide transportation to and from the Senior Center. Morning and afternoon runs are scheduled along specific routes; there’s a $1 fee for each one-way trip. Shalom Vans are funded with the help of the UJA-Federation Weinberg Fund for the Aging. Heights Program The Heights Program is a monthly evening activity group for working or civically active adults age 60+. Activities include lectures, discussions, performances and trips. A light dinner is served at all on-site activities. Veteran’s Support Group Many older members of the Russian speaking community had experienced the ordeals of the Second World War. Coming together to share their memories holds great meaning for them. We offer an opportunity for older veterans, both men and women, to meet twice a month: on the first and third Thursday at 2 pm. This group is facilitated in Russian by a member of the professional staff of the Jewish Board of Family and Children`s Services. For more information call the
