Teens and AdolescentsTeen Musical Theater FOR TEENS ONLY! Ages 12 to 18 • View the Trailer ![]() The project “Sosua: Dare To Dance Together” was created thanks to a generous grant sponsored by the UJA –Federation of New York for the purpose of strengthening the community and fostering communication between the Dominican and Jewish populations of Washington Heights and Inwood. The project is based on the actual events of 1938, when a special kinship was formed between the arriving Jewish population and residents of Sosua, a small Dominican town where many Jews found a safe haven from the Holocaust. This amazing story of courage, survival, freedom and friendship was written and performed by Jewish and Dominican teens from the neighborhood served by the Y. The original musical score is composed by the legendary Elizabeth Swados, who in collaboration with the teens has helped to create a powerful piece of art with incredible depth. With the second year of the project the teens will continue performing at various places as this project might become a model for other community centers, schools, universities, striving to strengthen inter-group relations in New York City and beyond. The Sosua: Dare To Dance Together production will continue engaging talented neighborhood teens in our new Teen Theater that will exemplify the beauty, history, power of art and diversity in this community.
